Compute nodes (Proxmox cluster)

Host CPU RAM Boot Role
nyx Ryzen 5 5600G 64GB 500GB NVMe Cluster leader, main VM host
styx Ryzen 5 5600G 64GB 500GB NVMe VM host, k3s node
erebus i5-9500T (mini PC) 32GB 256GB NVMe Low-power node, always-on services

All three run Proxmox VE 8.x, clustered with Corosync over a dedicated VLAN. nyx and styx are matched hardware for easy live migration; erebus is lower power and hosts things that need to survive the other two rebooting.

Storage

vault — TrueNAS Scale, dedicated storage box:

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
  • RAM: 64GB ECC
  • Pool: 6x 8TB HDD in RAIDZ2 (~32TB usable) + 1TB NVMe cache
  • Exposes NFS to Proxmox for VM storage, SMB for general file shares

Networking

  • UniFi Dream Machine Pro — router/firewall, IDS/IPS enabled
  • UniFi Switch 24 PoE — core switch, powers APs and cameras
  • 2x UniFi U6-Lite access points
  • 2.5GbE links between UDM Pro, switch, and the Proxmox/TrueNAS boxes; 1GbE everywhere else

Power

  • APC Back-UPS Pro 1500VA, USB-managed by nyx via NUT, broadcasts shutdown signal to the cluster on low battery
  • Estimated runtime at current load (~350W): ~25 minutes

Misc

  • Raspberry Pi 4 (8GB) — dedicated Pi-hole secondary + out-of-band monitoring
  • Managed PDU for remote power-cycling individual nodes
